Tom Seaney (Town of Danby)
After graduating from Cornell in 1971, Tom stayed in Ithaca and started a welding shop (Finger Lakes Fabricating), having the benefit of taking a welding course while still in the Agricultural School at Cornell. The business turned into a career and was further augmented when he started Hearth and Home, a stove and fireplace business, which is where his interested in alternative energy was founded. He has been with the Solarize Tompkins program since 2013. Tom was an early adopter of solar energy, installing both PV and solar thermal arrays on his house in Danby before the initiation of the Solarize programs as well as installing a ground sourced heat pump system before the HeatSmart effort. He is currently converting the heating and domestic hot water systems at Dewitt Park Inn, a local B&B, from natural gas to air sourced heat pumps to further reduce GHG emissions.
