Webinar #2
Webinar #3

Installing Air Source Heat Pumps Without
Call-backs

A three-part webinar series, followed by a hands-on training event that’s designed to increase adoption of air source heat pumps, while also reducing installation errors and promoting best practices. We'll finish with a dinner to honor the participants, and collaborating to define market-based next steps.

Each webinar is geared toward a specific audience, though you are welcome to attend all of them.  As a company owner you and your sales and staff might be most interested in webinar #1 and #2. Employees who are installers will benefit most from webinar #3. We can provide a certificate of attendance for each webinar. Information about CEUs is forthcoming.

Webinar #1: Why Every Home WILL Eventually Need a Heat Pump

Syllabus
Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) will play a significant role in NY’s energy plan going forward.  As the marketplace begins to ramp up the adoption of cold-climate air source heat pumps, it’s especially important to identify homes that are the best fit for this equipment, express the benefits accordingly, and deliver on the promise of a clean energy future.

Who should take this webinar?
This 1.5-hour webinar will enable and inform the discussions that can allow this transition to occur.  It is meant for HVAC / insulation contracting company owner/managers, general remodeling and electrical contractors, their sales staff and energy auditors, as well as code enforcement officers, facility and property managers, students in environmental and HVAC technology programs.

Key Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, attendees will be able to:
  • Articulate the role that cold-climate air source heat pumps play in New York’s clean energy goals
  • Define a strategy for how to discuss, market, and sell air source heat pumps
  • Explain associated NYSERDA incentives, utility rebates, other clean energy program options to customers and stakeholders
  • Describe at least three situations in which installation of ASHP's make good sense, and the reasons why.

Webinar #2:
The Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) as an Integral Part of an Energy Efficient and Comfortable Home.

Syllabus
Air source heat pumps represent a significant opportunity for homeowners and contractors alike. Learn how you can enter this field, and why you will want to.  Find out about the incentives that will make it easy to start selling and installing heat pumps.

Who should take this webinar?
This 1.5-hour webinar will make the case for expanding the business model of home performance contractors, HVAC contractors, and energy efficiency remodelers to adopt air source heat pumps as part of staying on the leading edge and honing a new market niche.

Key Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, attendees will be able to:
  • Describe the typical efficiencies of cold-climate air source heat pumps
  • Explain how building efficiency relates to the sizing requirements of an air source heat pump
  • Differentiate between NYSERDA incentives and utility incentives
  • List available certifications associated with air source heat pumps and building efficiency

Webinar #3:
Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) Installation Without Call-backs

Syllabus
There are fifty ways to create call-backs during the installation of air source heat pumps, and usually only one way to get it exactly right based on the unique characteristics of each building.

Who should take this webinar?
This 1.5-hour webinar will present best practices relating to installation guidelines and activities based on actual field inspections. It is meant for ASHP installation technicians, quality assurance inspectors, and volunteers in local clean energy programs.  Many of the most common installation errors will then be addressed during the associated hands-on field training event.

Key Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, attendees will be able to:
  • Successfully navigate and utilize the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) Cold Climate Air Source Heat Pump Resources
  • List the procedural steps involved with installing ASHP’s
  • Identify best practices for design, equipment selection, installation, and controls
  • Avoid common installation issues based on symptomatic data and diagnostic protocols
Saturday, November 7 | 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Ithaca, NY: Address provided after registration

Hands-on Training Event; Strategic Installation “Best Practice” Guidelines for Air Source Heat Pumps.

Syllabus
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that poor air source heat pump design, installation and commissioning could produce a 30% or higher penalty on the performance of the system. We will plan to hold the first two hours in a classroom setting and then another four hours in the lab doing hands-on exercises to eliminate call-backs in ASHP installations.  Participants will work as a team to examine, discuss, and address typical installation issues.

Who should attend this training?
This 6-hour event will target existing HVAC contractors as well as new entrants to the HVAC industry to offer a collaborative group learning experience that includes hands-on experience to address the most common ASHP installation errors.

Key Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, attendees will be able to:
  • Identify the basic ASHP installation procedure for multiple configurations
  • Recognize potential issues in installation and know how to address them
  • Understand basic protocols for avoiding common ASHP installation errors
  • State best practices for managing refrigerant materials during installation
