HeatSmart Air Source Heat Pump Workforce Training for Central New York and Southern Tier
HeatSmart Tompkins, in partnership with the Building Performance Contractors Association (BPCA), is sponsoring a free job training program to support the clean energy workforce growth needed to meet demand in this expanding employment market.
Components of the training program: The training consists of:
A three-part webinar series
A field training event, taught by experienced installers
The training is designed to upgrade the skills of existing regional air source heat pump contractors and technicians, and to increase the interest and confidence of potential entrants to this market. It will also support the development of a pool of entry-level candidates qualified to participate in on-the-job training programs.
This offering is tailored to provide you with what you need to know to expand your current business or to be job-ready to apply for existing installer positions.
By the end of this training, attendees will be able to:
Perform the basic steps required for air source heat pump installation
Recognize potential issues in the installation process and know how to address them
Understand basic protocols for avoiding common ASHP installation errors
Describe best practices for managing refrigerant materials during installation
Webinar and Field Training Elements
Webinar #1 Why Every Home WILL Need a Heat Pump
Webinar #2 The Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) as an Integral Part of a Comfortable and Energy Efficient Home
Webinar #3 Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) Installation Without Call-backs
Classroom/Lab Training in Ithaca, NY Hands-on Training Event; Strategic Installation “Best Practice” Guidelines for Air Source Heat Pumps
Wrap-up Dinner We tentatively plan to host a dinner at the conclusion of the training.
The primary audience for this training will be HVAC and building performance contractors and their staff.
Whether you are an experienced contractor seeking to expand your skill-base or a novice ready to enter the workforce, you can benefit from this professional development opportunity and be ready to participate in the acceleration of the transition to all-electric heating and cooling energy systems.
Who else might be interested in this opportunity? Energy auditors, code enforcement officers, facility and property managers, energy technology students attending community colleges and BOCES as well as those underemployed or interested in pursuing the many emerging opportunities in this field.
Why now? What has changed?
Despite positive growth in clean energy jobs most clean energy businesses express difficulty hiring qualified workers. Governor Cuomo’s Green New Deal policies and decisions by the New York State Public Service Commission will require that utilities to provide greater rebates for the installation of cold climate ASHPs.
We are looking at a revolution in how NY homes will be heated. This translates to an economic boom, and massive growth in clean energy jobs. Don't get left out!
